CONFESSION: being a Nutritionist does not mean I eat
healthy all the time. All this week I’ve been eating popcorn from a VERY LARGE bag from Costo (you know the one I’m talking about).
I’ve been getting my cravings around 11am and it's for
salty popcorn… and I’m the person who helps other
women stop their cravings!
But what I understand now is that my body is craving salty
popcorn because of STRESS.
It’s the stress I have been feeling all week as I’ve been
juggling 8 balls in the air and it's been non stop…. go go
go. I feel l am burning the candle at both ends.
Stress affects us in many different ways and it happens when we are:
Over exercising
Eating the wrong foods
Under eating or overeating
Worrying - about everything (work, family, kids, bills, etc)
Feeling bloated
People pleasing (saying YES to everyone, even when you can’t do it)
Forgetting to have healthy boundaries with people around us
And lots more….
Now that I understand what my stress triggers are… What
I don’t do anymore is beat myself up for giving into my
cravings and going into starvation mode to make up for
what I ate!
Here’s what I do instead:
When my body is craving salty foods (I’m actually in need of salt) and I also know it has nothing to do with willpower (it’s not your fault).
I look at what is causing me stress and apply the strategies which I teach my clients
It’s important to support your body and be kind to yourself when you are in these situations. What has worked for me as well is:
Taking walks in nature
Meditating (just 5 minutes will help you feel better)
Deep breathing
Taking a supplement like Ashwagandha which has been used traditionally to support the body and the immune system during stressful situations.
As a Nutritionist who helps women with their cravings,
sharing my morning craving with you is not easy. But I’m
doing this because I want you to understand what
happens when your body is out of balance (due to stress
or other conditions) and it has nothing to do with not
having any will power.

craving or have craved in the past ?
